Bathing a baby with Eczema

Image
Bath time with our eczema baby  There were so many questions at first when it came to what to put on his skin and bath time was just another way to expose his little fresh baby skin to something that could harm it.  We have a very clear routine we stick to now.  Timing of bath- Every other day  We do not bathe him every day. We tried that and it only made things worse. I would suggest just trying both to see what works best for your baby. You are the best judge on when a spot bath or full bath is needed. On another note, we found that 7 o’clock starts our bed time hour. This helps us stay on track with all the lotions that have to be applied.  Potential allergens while bathing We took away anything with fragrances. This decision was made because of how sensitive he was and all of his food allergies. It was hard to find products that did not have an allergen or potential allergen.   Duration of bath   Per the doctor and many other suggestions, we only b...

Medical Journey Part Two

S ummer of 2022  Brutal, Brutal Summer With the heat of the Alabama summer came eczema like we had never seen. All his little fat rolls just became so much worse. We actually had to use burn bandages in the creases of his arms and legs. They would ooze so much that his clothing would stick to them.  May 2022 April left us with a path to begin our first elimination diet that would lead to some type of relief. I changed my diet, and we waited throughout the month of May to see the results of eliminating all of the allergens found. May of 2022 the cleaning began to be a priority throughout the day. Russell would be crawling soon. Since he was allergic to dust, we would be ridding the house of anything that collected a lot of dust and mopping every two-three days. June and July of 2022 In June, we had a follow-up with the pulmonologists where he examined Russell to see any improvements. Nothing was really giving him relief 100% of the time. The doctor was able to make the nec...

How It All Began

Doctor’s Visits and Proactive Medical Decisions  Part One of Three I have split the "medical eczema journey" into six month intervals because there is so much information. If you are a new eczema parent, your journey may look different. And that's okay. You have to do what you think is best for your child. The process can take time, hang in there! Here you will find the order of events that has led us to the medicines we use. We have seen a variety of doctors, and they are all very proactive in their approach to helping Russell be comfortable with his eczema.  Please do not use this information to diagnose your child. This is to share our experience and give parents potential questions for their medical providers.  We had no knowledge of eczema and have been surrounded by a great team of doctors that are knowledgeable about atopic dermatitis.  Russell at six weeks old  His cheeks are starting to become scaly and red. Under his chin and neck are starting t...

Where do I begin to heal?

Image
It was so hard to understand this phenomenon. I didn’t have any friends with kids that had eczema. Or, of the child did have eczema they would “grow out of it” or a magic cream would help.           Like any good parent, you begin to do your research and try to stick with medical experts, but I soon found that the experts were all telling me different remedies. It seemed like noone was on the same page.        We knew he had eczema, we tried to keep his skin clean and make sure that he was always covered with lotion.         The first product we tried was Aquaphor. This seemed to be what the doctors and several others recommended. This product was not my favorite and would not calm his skin. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall of 2022 (or whatever you want to call our Alabama seasons) Aquaphor did not work on his face and body. The only place it seemed to help was his scalp. But ...
