Helping my child with his Eczema

*Disclaimer* I am not a medical expert or doctor. I am a mom of a child that has had eczema for 15 months and sharing my journey.

EczeMom

Welcome! Thank you for visiting our blog, and I hope that you find this information about eczema helpful.

When my son first got eczema, I had no idea what to do. There was little to nothing on the internet about children his age with eczema. So, I am here, trying to fill the gap and help other parents of toddlers and infants with eczema.

Please like and subscribe to the blog to see the latest information and updates!

Who are we?

My name is Elizabeth Gilbert. I live in South Alabama near the beaches with my amazing husband, son, and two dogs. My husband and I did not have eczema growing up, so this journey was new for us. Russell, now 17 months old, has had eczema since he was 6 weeks old.

My Mission

After searching for information for infants and babies, this blog was created to be a guide for parents struggling with severe eczema. I have a long list of products, tips, and daily routines that have helped us make our son comfortable and clear his skin. Unfortunately, not every product we tried worked.
I wanted to show other parents before and after our use of steroids and our daily routine. So many people talk about them, but do not give a week by week result or “what to expect” from the steroids versus creams only.
There were so many products that "healed" other children's eczema, but we have not found that yet. This blog is to inform, not to diagnose or be a medical reference. Sometimes, you just need to be told that you are doing everything you can. Even if you are not getting the results desired, you as a parent are trying your best to allow the child to be a child and be comfortable in their ever-itchy skin.

My Son

At six weeks old my son developed an extremely bad rash on his cheeks. The rash then begin to spread to his whole body. The rashes on his cheeks would open up and ooze with liquid and sometimes puss. It was awful to watch. I can remember having to use tweezers to remove pieces of lint from his cheeks sometimes.

When we went to the doctor for his three-month-old checkup, they said he had eczema and referred us to a pulmonologist. In April of 2022, we found out that he had several food allergies. After changing my diet, changing our environment, which included having the dogs outside at all times, we still are struggling with severe eczema 13 months later. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1XFzLobOHyRLbd_9YT2gBBxf_Shnn95qj

We have our favorite creams and lotions, and we have restrictions for outdoor activities. The routine for cleaning the house can be exhausting, but it is one way we can help our child be as comfortable as possible.

I have given a timeline of all the changes and small reviews of products used (helpful and not that helpful) in other posts. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Dl5GZhZ3vE_3dfXjzwh0pVttfi2QHHYc
